Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but most people describe piercing pain as a quick, sharp pinch that lasts only a few seconds. Any discomfort usually settles quickly after the jewellery has been fitted.

All initial piercings are performed using implant-grade titanium jewellery, which is hypoallergenic, lightweight and ideal for healing. Jewellery upgrades are also available if you’d like something a little more decorative.

Healing times vary depending on the piercing and your body’s healing process. Approximate healing times: Earlobe 3–6 months, Helix/Conch/Tragus & other cartilage 6–12 months, Nose 4–6 months, Navel 6–12 months, Lip 3–6 months. Even if a piercing feels healed, the inside may still be healing, so continue following your aftercare advice.

Clean your piercing twice daily using a sterile saline solution. Gently remove any softened crust with clean gauze or kitchen roll. Avoid twisting or rotating the jewellery and always wash your hands before touching your piercing.

No. These products are too harsh and can delay healing or irritate the piercing. Sterile saline solution is all that’s needed unless advised otherwise by your piercer or healthcare professional.

It’s best to avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes and the sea for at least the first 4 weeks, as these environments can introduce bacteria and increase the risk of infection.

No. Your initial jewellery should stay in place until the piercing is ready. Changing it too soon can damage the healing channel and cause irritation or prolong healing.

Many piercings are fitted with a slightly longer bar initially to allow for swelling. Once the swelling has reduced (usually around 6–8 weeks for many cartilage piercings), the jewellery should be downsized to help prevent irritation, snagging and crooked healing.

Yes. Mild swelling, redness, tenderness and a small amount of clear or pale yellow fluid are all normal during the early stages of healing.

Signs of infection may include: increasing redness that continues to spread, severe swelling, hot skin around the piercing, thick green or dark yellow discharge, a strong unpleasant smell, or fever. If you suspect an infection, contact your piercer and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.

Generally, no. Removing the jewellery can trap the infection inside the piercing. Speak to your piercer or a healthcare professional before removing jewellery unless instructed to do so.

It’s best to avoid sleeping directly on a fresh piercing, especially cartilage piercings. Pressure can cause irritation, swelling and even change the angle of the piercing. A travel pillow can help keep pressure off the ear while sleeping.

Try to avoid anything that presses against a fresh piercing until it has settled, especially for ear piercings. Clean any headphones regularly if you need to use them.
